Safeguarding Our Homes

For our June Relief Society Meeting Officer Adams, from the Arlington police, met with us at the Fairlington Community Center to discuss how to keep our homes and family safe.

A=Awareness

  • jog/walk with a friend or dog
  • be observant
  • hold purse and bags tight
  • have keys and phone accessible
  • look for suspicious behavior (ex. person wearing hoodie in hot weather)
B=Be Prepared
  • carry a whistle, pepper spray/mace or a noise alarm
C=Control
  • shout "Get Off Me!" or "Get Away From Me!"
  • if a person demands property give it to them
  • put up the best fight you can
  • try not to bite (unknown things in blood)
  • scratching is good and so is a groin shot
  • use elbow, knees, back of hand to hit shins, eyes, chin and stomp on foot.
D=Don't Give Up
  • give 100% in a fight
Safeguard Homes
  • dogs are good
  • trimming bushes and trees
  • motion sensor lights
  • neighborhood watch
  • when leaving for vacation stop mail and uses timers for lights
  • write down all your serial numbers of all your products (tv, computer, etc.)
